This Federalist style wall
unit was built for a client who moved into
a condo where space is at a premium. It was
important that the unit be both functional
and attractive. To give the piece an original,
“built-in” look, we incorporated
design features and from a nearby fireplace
mantel. The wood used was a combination of
birch veneer plywood and poplar. The client
chose the color scheme to match the decor.
Because of the enormous size of the unit,
it was designed and built in sections, then
assembled on site. A matching baseboard molding
completes the transition to the room.
The base features sliding doors instead of
hinged doors to prevent intrusion into the
room, and two adjustable shelves on each side.
The doors can be removed to store large objects.
The top portion of the unit was designed around
a family portrait and features a hidden curio
light. Fully adjustable shelves accommodate
any size book or keepsake.
