Counter/Cabinet Unit
This unit was the result of an Interior
Designer’s idea to replace a brick
planter, located in the floor that separated
the kitchen from the dining area.
After the planter was removed, critical
measurements and digital images were taken
of the area. The design called for the cabinet
unit to fill the void in the floor left
by the planter, wrap around an existing
vertical panel at the end of the kitchen
counter and mate with the front leading
edge of the kitchen countertop and cabinets.
On the dining room side, the vertical corner
cabinet required an opening inside to access
a wall switch.
Sliding doors on the lower cabinet were
selected for the dining room side as opposed
to hinged doors to save space, since the
dining area was relatively narrow. Totally
concealed door hinges on the kitchen side
matched existing designs. Adjustable shelves
throughout the unit solved the client’s
storage needs.
The wood choice was birch, stained to match
existing millwork and sealed with three
coats of urethane.
